"Dance" from editEdmaSTer |
|
"Dance" is the final movement of a larger work for orchestra entitled editEdmaSTer, a semi-autobiographical work. |
| I wrote "Dance" in three days while taking a weekend of rest in Palm Springs. But the scoring took another 3 months. |
| The idea for this piece had been floating around in my head for weeks. It is entirely based on 2 separate chord patterns and a rhythm pattern. Each chord pattern consists of only two chords. There is a tonal version and an atonal version of each pattern. The rhythm pattern is used in all four variations: original, retrograde, inversion, and retrograde inversion. |
| The only thing that surprised me was that the piece was in a traditional scherzo (a-b-a) form. The ending coda is pure Hollywood. |
